About

Who is Hallenburg Communications?

It’s me, Kari Hallenburg, with 30 years of professional writing, editing, and project management experience to provide world-class support to your communications projects. I’ve managed communications for businesses and nonprofit organizations. and I've served as a science magazine and journal editor. I’m equipped to handle projects from brochures and blogs to large-scale communications project management.

And… I collaborate with talented graphic artists, web developers, programmers, photographers, and social media experts to provide comprehensive development services for your print or online projects.

For my complete credentials and work samples, please call  503-867-7211 or e-mail me.

Content areas

I’ve worked with content in many areas, but the unifying theme of my work is the sciences: natural sciences such as wildlife and entomology, environmental education and sustainability, small-scale agriculture, horticulture, animal rights/welfare and behavior — and I'm also experienced in areas such as analytical chemistry (chromatography), pharmaceutical sciences, medical devices, medical education, health care, psychology, water quality and air quality (environmental engineering), and geology. For scientific editing services, visit the Scientific Communications page.

Capabilities

The heart of my work is editing, writing, and communications management, and it extends to marketing communications and website content development. I work with layout, design, and publishing tools such as Adobe Creative and, of course, Microsoft Office. I collaborate with graphic artists, web developers, programmers, social media managers, photographers, and other writers as the project requires.

Style guides

I work with the following style guides:
•  The Chicago Manual of Style
•  AP Stylebook (Associated Press)
•  MLA Style Manual (Modern Language Association)
•  Scientific Style and Format: The CSE Manual for Authors, Editors, and Publishers
•  The ACS Style Guide (American Chemical Society)
•  AMA Manual of Style (American Medical Association)
•  Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association
•  The Yahoo Style Guide (online style)
•  Microsoft Manual of Style for Technical Publications

•  other subject- and organization-specific style guides

And, if you need to standardize and document your in-house style, I do that too.
